Fantastic alternative to Box hedging for a low growing compact hedge or for marking borders and pathways in the garden. Can grow in all situations other than very wet soils or dense shade. Ilex crenata is also very easy to train to topiary shapes.
- Ilex Crenata (Japanese Holly) can tolerate a hardy pruning, but pruning promotes new growth which is susceptible to cold weather and frosts. You can trim off branch tips to remove dead wood and make the shape more aesthetically appealing
